The Flytec 6030 (aka Bräuniger IQ Compeo+) is no longer being produced, but we still maintain its software, fix bugs, make sure it stays up to date with international competition rules, etc. This is also true for the 6030’s little brother, the 6020 (aka Competino+).

The most important recent additions are:

  1. WGS84 distance calculation, as required for participating in FAI Category 1 competitions (world and continental championships). To get WGS distance calculation, you need to:
    1. Install the latest firmware for your vario (see below).
    2. Purchase the release code for this feature (see below). Be sure to give the correct device type and serial number. You find the serial number on the start-up screen, right after confirming the language, next to the “S/N” label.
    3. Wait until you receive the release code by Email, usually within 24 hours after the purchase.
    4. Go to Menu – Device settings – Software options – package 6 (WGS84 distance calc.). Enter the code you received from us.
    5. Go to Menu – Device settings – Earth model and choose between FAI sphere and WGS84 ellipsoid.
  2. A fix that makes sure the vario puts the correct date in its IGC files, even after GPS date roll-over on April 6, 2019. With this fix, your vario will work properly at least until 2038.
  3. A fix of a bug in some of the GPS modules’ software that caused a loss of GPS reception after 1-3 hours of flight.
  4. More bug fixes, see release notes below

Troubleshooting
1. Turned display

Occasionally, it can happen that after a software update, the screen of your 6030 is turned by 90 degree, and very faint (to the point where it may seem that the vario is not even running). There is an easy remedy for that:

  1. Switch on your 6030
  2. Instead of pressing OK to confirm the language selection, press both the right and down arrow keys simultaneously
  3. The display should now be turned back to the original orientation and fully visible

This is a one-time procedure: once you turned the display this way, it will come up correctly in the future.

2. Display contrast very low or very high

If you changed the display contrast settings to a very low or very high value (for example, while trying to fix the problem with the turned display), and now can’t read the display contents, this is how you arrive at the contrast settings “blindly”:

  1. Turn on your 6030
  2. Wait for 2 minutes, to make sure it has started up
  3. Press the bottom right button (volume) repeatedly, to ensure a sound setting of 25% or more. This will also enable key tones, which make blind menu operations easier
  4. Long-press the menu key
  5. Press the up arrow key 3 times
  6. Press the OK key twice
  7. Change contrast with the up and down arrow keys
  8. Confirm setting with the OK key
  9. Leave the menu with the ESC key (bottom center)
